Batwa trail cultural experiences
About the Batwa busmen
The Batwa people are the indigenous forest- dwelling community who lived in harmony with nature for centuries. The Batwa trail experience offers visitors a chance to learn about their traditional hunting techniques, medicinal plants and herbs, and cultural norms and practices.
Activity description
This walk is conducted by Batwa guides who provide insights into their traditional forest life and culture.
The Batwa demonstrate their past hunting techniques; ways of gathering honey.
The guides will point out the medicinal plants that were used and demonstrate how to make bamboo cups. Guests are finally invited to the sacred Ngarama Cave, once home to the Batwa King.
The women of the community perform a cultural dance towards the end of the trail, and you can participate in their dance traditional dance with a melodious traditional echos

Organic coffee farming and Roasting experience

- Join the roasting session to learn about different roasting techniques and profiles of the cups and roast your own under guidance of the local roaster
- Taste a fully roasted coffee to understand different flavors as in medium, dark and light roasted coffees

As one of the processes and efforts to conserve the mountain gorillas the Batwa people who inhabited the primary vegetation of virunga massive were evicted from the forests
and due to the efforts to conserve their cultures they now have a community around the conservation areas of mgahinga gorilla national park and Bwindi impenetrable national park
